FRUSTRATIONS-----------------
You care deeply about your students.
You want them to love music & play with joy for life.
But sometimes, it's hard to tell why they don't respond.
You correct. You demonstrate. You explain it another way. And yet — they don't improve from week to week.
One student struggles with pain or tension.
Another is anxious or afraid of making mistakes.
Another seems mixed up about breathing.
You weren't trained for this.
You learned repertoire, technique, and musicianship.
But there were gaps. You weren't taught to recognize how emotions, physical tension, & body use can affect playing.

Teaching Unleashed helps you:
Uncover the emotional and physical roots of students' problems.
Create a joyful, safe environment that stimulates students' desire to learn.
Learn enough about the body to help them with breathing or arm & wrist pain.
Lessen the isolation of being a private teacher.
Our young people are living with extraordinary levels of anxiety, fear, and uncertainty.
Research shows that in the United States alone, 75% of school-aged children experience at least one trauma-related event. Many experience more. (CDC, MMWR, October 10, 2024 / 73(4);39–49)
These experiences are already coming through your studio doors, bringing painful amounts of physical tension and emotional stress.
Musicians are especially vulnerable to injury when patterns of physical and emotional tension begin to develop early on.
Later, when demands for practice and performance increase, pressure is magnified to the point of injury: up to 85% of young musicians play in pain. (NIH 2020 PMID: 33391080.) Many must interrupt their studies or career to get help.
You can be the teacher who builds resilience from the very first lesson, preventing those limiting patterns from taking root.
Teaching Unleashed helps you understand your students' experiences
with more depth and compassion.
So you get curious about the thoughts, emotions, and habits that shape the way they move and play.
For example:
Limited breathing may be due to anatomical misunderstandings.
“Where do you imagine the diaphragm to be? Can you show me?"
A technical glitch may be connected to past failures.
“I noticed that passage seemed difficult for you.
What was going on in your mind?"
A student who seems unmotivated may simply be afraid of getting it wrong.
“May I ask you a question about this?
I'm wondering if you're worried about making mistakes.
Is that a possibility?"

During your first 3 months in Teaching Unleashed, you'll begin to notice changes —
in yourself, your students, and the culture of your studio.
YOUR STUDIO CULTURE
“I didn't practice.”
“This hurts.”
“I don't understand.”
“I'm scared about the audition.”
“The music I really want to play is…”
PROBLEMS BECOME INVITATIONS TO EXPLORE — RATHER THAN CORRECTIONS TO MAKE.
YOU FINISH YOUR DAY ENERGIZED INSTEAD OF DEPLETED
“Wow, honey! I had such an amazing afternoon.
I can't wait to see what happens tomorrow!”
NINA: (flute, Czech Republic)
“Teaching is completely different — so much more joyful, so much more creative. I am not exhausted, I am usually not even tired!
I am so energized applying this approach.”
EILEEN: (flute, Massachusetts)
“I now ask my students more questions rather than just telling them what to do. I'm getting to know some of my more shy students better by learning to wait for their response. I'm giving them time to think.”

3 private lessons with Lea,

These lessons let you go deeper into your own transformation,
work on specific issues, and
integrate what you're learning into your unique playing and teaching style.
BEFORE: “I always believed I was a caring, skilled teacher. But sometimes I felt out of my depth.”
NOW: "I don't have to know all the answers.
I observe, get curious, and work with each student to discover their personal path to artistry, uncovering new ways to teach in the process!”
I get up every day because
I know what it's like to have my voice buried under pain, toxic self-judgment,
and the belief that I could never be good enough.
For decades, I played with pain and numbness in my body.
I would look at my flute and just cry because it hurt so much to play.
Eventually, I realized how much of that story had roots in my earliest musical training.
I don't want another musician to lose their voice that way.
And I don't want caring teachers to unknowingly pass those patterns on.
Teaching is a powerful force for change.
Mentorship.
Resilience.
Artistry.
It nurtures and amplifies voices that might otherwise go unheard.
One teacher influences hundreds of students.
Students carry that experience into their practicing and performing —
and into their relationships, communities, and careers.
Those students integrate those transformations into their own teaching,
influencing hundreds more.
When you change the culture of your studio, you change the world —
one student at a time.
NINA: (Flute, Czech Republic)
“We've been introduced to a much needed approach to education. Needed, I think, everywhere in life and the world.”
ALISON: (flute, Colorado)
“I am talking to people differently as a result of this. I get questions about playing from younger people all the time. Now I'm suggesting they look inward - what is right for you?”
A healthy approach to music making begins at the very first lesson!
The cycle breaks.
A new world begins.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHEN DOES TEACHING UNLEASHED MEET?
We meet every Wednesday from 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM Eastern Time on Zoom.
Each class is 60 minutes long.
WHAT IF I CAN'T ATTEND A CLASS?
Every class is recorded. You'll have access to the recordings so you can catch up when you need to.
HOW MUCH WORK IS REQUIRED BETWEEN CLASSES?
Generally, up to one hour of video, exploration, reflection, or journaling.
But most of the real work happens within what you're already doing:
DO I HAVE TO USE FACEBOOK?
No, although it can be helpful.
Classes take place on Zoom. Resources, recordings, and group conversations may also be shared through the private Facebook group.
WHAT IF MONEY IS AN ISSUE?
Fall Semester is $333 per month for three months or $999 paid in full.
The full nine-month program is $333 per month for nine months or $2,997 paid in full.
If Teaching Unleashed feels important to you but you genuinely cannot figure out how to make it work financially, let's have a conversation.
HOW ARE THE CLASSES STRUCTURED?
We begin with a Presence Pause to become present with one another, settle, and prepare to learn.
Classes may include Body Mapping, somatic exploration, student-centered and trauma-aware teaching practices, master classes, practice teaching, and troubleshooting real student challenges. The curriculum gives us structure — but there's always room to respond to the people in the room.
IS THIS A BODY MAPPING TRAINING COURSE?
No.
We explore fundamental Body Mapping principles and apply them to breathing, arm use, jaw function, standing, sitting, and other aspects of playing. Some folks find it a great introduction to Body Mapping.
Body Mapping Trainees and Licensed Body Mapping Educators also find Teaching Unleashed valuable
IS TEACHING UNLEASHED ONLY FOR FLUTISTS?
No!
Teaching Unleashed is open to studio teachers of all instruments, student ages, and musical genres.
WHO IS THIS NOT FOR?
Teaching Unleashed isn't for you if you're looking for quick hacks, a formula to follow, or simply another marketing credential.
It is for teachers who are curious about how people learn, grow, move, feel, and change — and who are willing to examine their own teaching along the way.
WHAT'S THE VIBE?
No!
Fun. Informal. Safe. Participatory. Supportive. Open. Responsive. Inclusive.
There will be serious conversations.
There will also be a lot of laughter.
YOU DON'T HAVE TO FIGURE THIS OUT ALONE.
Let's talk about what's possible for you, your students, and the artists they are becoming.
